Today’s a holiday at Blue Cat’s house, so he and his family went for a drive through the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, CO. The park is centered around some striking beds of deep-red, pink, and white sandstones, conglomerates and limestone that were deposited horizontally, but were tilted vertically by the same forces that created the nearby Rocky Mountains.
One of the most famous formations in the park is Balance Rock, which is at the west end of the park. You can drive right next to it – or park and get up really close. Here’s a picture:

Blue Cat also went to the park’s Trading Post, where you can buy all sorts of trinkets and other touristy things as well as have a nice casual meal. They also have the only metal cactus that Blue Cat has ever seen…
According to Wikipedia, Garden of the Gods is ranked as the second best park in the nation and the third best in the world on TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Attractions 2013 list. Blue Cat thinks you should come visit it some time!
