Day 3: Blue Cat is not much of a gardener. In fact, he can barely keep grass alive with an automated sprinkler system. (And he often wonders – why water grass when all it does is make it grow so you have to mow it? Although grass is easy on the feet and it looks better than dirt and weeds.)
That’s why Blue Cat is grateful for flowers today – especially the perennial flowers that grow in his back yard. Planted a couple years ago by his creator, the perennials don’t have to be planted every year – they come back every spring by themselves. And since they’re laid out right they need no care except a little watering (and little of that if you pick the right kind).

But there’s another kind of flower that Blue Cat is grateful for this year – the carrot flower. If you’ve never had a carrot go to seed it’s a wonderous thing – hundreds of seeds for each plant. Even if you cut all the stems and seed pods down in the Fall (which is what Blue Cat’s family did) a lot of seeds fall to the ground and start growing in the Spring. And so that’s why Blue Cat’s garden has carrots this year – all due to the magic of flowers.

So that’s why Blue Cat is grateful for flowers.
What are you grateful for today?
