Blue Cat Faces Snowmageddon

It was snowing in Colorado. Really snowing for the first time in a long time. And Blue Cat has discovered a few things that might help you if you face a lot of Spring snow…

Fudge thought he could walk on snow…

The first thing is that snow depth can be deceptive. Fudge didn’t realize that just because the snow had a smooth surface it didn’t also mean that it would support his weight. And this is the snow on a patio that had been shoveled just the night before.

Birds need food too…

Secondly, it’s especially important that you help your outdoor friends when it’s snowing. Note that this Bird-Friend-Feeder has a roof, but it doesn’t prevent snow from drifting over the seeds. Blue Cat did a little digging for his friends in case they came out to brave the snow.

(However, in the time it took Blue Cat to write the words above it snowed another half-inch. So there will be a lot of digging today!)

Third – Bird-Friend-Feeder hooks can be slippery…

Blue Cat takes a dive…

Finally (for this morning at least), heavy snow can help you keep your yard healthy without much extra effort. Instead of just getting the snow off the yard for Blue Cat’s dog friends, he had his scribe pile the snow around the bases of the trees in the yard. That way the snow will water the trees for days (or weeks) after the snowstorm is over, keeping them well hydrated during the dry and sunny days to come.

Snow now means water later…

Blue Cat hopes you’re enjoying your weather today and that it doesn’t cause too much trouble. On this day he was off to shovel the driveway so the next 12 inches of snow had a place to land.
