Blue Cat goes to Coors Field every year for a special baseball game – the Colorado Rockies versus some challenger, with ticket proceeds going to Blue Cat’s favorite charity (Domino Service Dogs). It’s a great way to enjoy a Colorado afternoon, (usually) see some great baseball, and indulge in food that one usually would avoid for caloric and other reasons. This year was particularly good – read on to discover why.

The day was May 16th – a lovely Saturday with the game starting at 1:10pm. The challengers were the Arizona Diamondbacks (named after the rattlesnake). Parking was tough as usual, and getting to our seats took awhile. But it was worth it.
The first great thing was the weather. A late May afternoon in Denver is usually filled with sunshine which makes you wish sunscreen would also block the heat. This year was mostly overcast with a cool (but not cold) breeze. There was a little rain, but Blue Cat’s family always gets covered seats. A little further from the action, but rain and direct sunlight are not a problem. Plus you’re closer to the food.
And what food! There a funnel cakes, at least 4 different kinds of hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken in a variety of forms (all fried), and ice cream (if you count Dipping Dots as ice cream). Blue Cat and his family enjoyed all of these, along with French fries, sodas and water. They didn’t even try the nachos, various beers, and baseball bats filled with popcorn. Luckily Blue Cat doesn’t gain weight with all that eating – he was able to control his intake because he arrived at the game already stuffed.
The game itself was also good – for the first time ever when he was attending the Rockies won – and won big. There were plenty of exciting hits, base running, and catches on both sides, but in the end it was all Rockies. Final score: 4 to 2. Not a blowout but definitely not a loss.
Blue Cat also made a new friend – Dinger, the official mascot of the Rockies. Not the person in a Dinger suit that pretends to be him, but the real Dinger, as you can see in the picture below. Dinger now lives at Blue Cat’s house and commutes to his duties at the Rockies games.
